Overview

Levobact 500mg contains levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It treats a range of bacterial infections including chest infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis), sinus infections, urinary tract and kidney infections, and some skin infections. Levofloxacin works by killing the bacteria causing the infection and is usually reserved for infections where other antibiotics are unsuitable. Completing the full course is essential. Supplied as a 10-tablet pack.

Active ingredient: Levofloxacin (as hemihydrate) 500mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Swallow the tablet whole with plenty of water, usually once daily at the same time. It can be taken with or without food, but separate it by at least two hours from antacids, iron, zinc or dairy, which reduce its absorption. Complete the full course and stay well hydrated.

Tell your doctor about tendon problems, epilepsy, heart-rhythm conditions, myasthenia gravis, or if pregnant or breastfeeding. Fluoroquinolones can rarely cause tendon pain or rupture. Stop and seek advice if a tendon becomes painful or swollen. Avoid excessive sun, and limit caffeine. May cause dizziness. Store below 30°C.
