Overview

Metronidazole Syrup (100ml) contains metronidazole, an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medicine, in a liquid form suitable for children. It treats infections caused by certain bacteria and parasites, including some gut and dental infections and parasitic infections such as amoebiasis and giardiasis (common causes of diarrhoea). Metronidazole works by killing the bacteria and parasites. A doctor-prescribed medicine helping families treat these infections. Confirm the active on the pack.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Shake the bottle well and measure with the cap or syringe provided. Give the exact dose your doctor prescribes (based on weight/age), usually spread through the day, with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course exactly as prescribed, even if symptoms improve. For older children/adults who also take alcohol, avoid alcohol during and for 48 hours after treatment.

Avoid alcohol during treatment and for about 2 days after (relevant for older patients), as the combination causes flushing, nausea and vomiting. May cause a metallic taste, nausea or dark urine (harmless). Tell your doctor about liver problems or other medicines. Report numbness or tingling, or fits, promptly.
