Overview

Metrozol 400mg contains metronidazole, an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medicine. It is a prescription medicine used to treat a range of infections caused by certain bacteria and parasites, including dental and gum infections, abscesses, some stomach and gut infections, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis, and amoebic and giardia infections. Metronidazole works by killing the bacteria and parasites responsible. It is effective against germs that grow without oxygen (anaerobes) and certain protozoa, and is widely used for these specific infections.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Swallow the tablets whole with water, with or after food to reduce stomach upset, spacing the doses evenly through the day. The dose and length of course depend on the infection. Follow your doctor's instructions exactly and complete the full course, even if you feel better.

Do not drink alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after finishing. The combination can cause flushing, a fast heartbeat, nausea and vomiting. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or a nervous system condition. It may cause a metallic taste, nausea or darkened urine. Tell your doctor about other medicines, especially blood thinners (warfarin). Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Finish the full course. Store below 25°C.
