Overview

Rifaxa 550mg Tablets (10 pack) contain rifaximin, an antibiotic that works mainly inside the gut. Because very little is absorbed into the body, it acts locally in the bowel and is used to help prevent the confusion and other symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy (a complication of advanced liver disease) and, in some cases, to manage certain types of diarrhoea or irritable bowel symptoms. By reducing harmful gut bacteria and the toxins they produce, it helps protect brain function in liver disease. Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet twice daily, swallowed with water, with or without food. Take it regularly at evenly spaced times and complete the course your doctor prescribes, even if you feel better. For long-term liver-related use, keep taking it for as long as advised, and attend your reviews. Do not use leftover antibiotic for other illnesses.

Tell your doctor about severe liver disease or other medicines you take. Stop and seek advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, which can occasionally occur with antibiotics. Seek urgent help for rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Complete the prescribed course to help prevent antibiotic resistance. Store below 30°C in a dry place.
