Overview

Septrin DS Tablets (10 pack) contain co-trimoxazole. A combination of two antibacterials, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. At double strength ('DS'). Together they block two steps the bacteria need to grow, making the combination effective against a range of infections, including certain urinary, chest and gut infections, and used to treat and prevent a specific pneumonia (PCP) in people with weakened immunity. By stopping bacterial growth, Septrin clears infection and relieves its symptoms. A long-established, doctor-prescribed antibiotic widely used , including for people living with HIV.

Actives: Sulfamethoxazole 800mg and Trimethoprim 160mg per double-strength tablet.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet twice daily, swallowed with a full glass of water, with or after food. Drink plenty of fluids during treatment. Complete the full course even if you feel better, to clear the infection fully and prevent resistance. For long-term preventive use, take it exactly as your doctor schedules.

Do not use with a known sulfonamide ('sulfa') allergy. Stop and seek urgent care for any skin rash, especially with fever, blistering or peeling, which can rarely be serious. Drink plenty of water. Tell your doctor about kidney or liver problems, folate deficiency, asthma or blood disorders, and about other medicines (including warfarin and some diabetes and heart drugs). Use in pregnancy (especially late) or breastfeeding only on medical advice; not for young infants. Store below 25°C.
