Overview

Univir 400mg Tablets (10 pack) contain aciclovir, an antiviral medicine that treats infections caused by the herpes family of viruses. Aciclovir stops the virus multiplying, helping to speed healing and ease symptoms of conditions such as genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles or chickenpox (varicella-zoster). Started early in an outbreak, it shortens the attack and reduces pain, and can be used to suppress frequent genital herpes recurrences. The 400mg strength is commonly used for genital herpes and suppression. A trusted, doctor-prescribed antiviral helping people manage herpes-virus infections.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. The dose and frequency depend on the infection (for example, several times a day for an outbreak, or twice daily for suppression), swallowed with water and with plenty of fluids. Start treatment as early as possible in an outbreak for the best effect, and complete the full course. Keep well hydrated while taking it.

Drink plenty of fluids during treatment, especially in higher doses, to protect the kidneys. Tell your doctor about kidney problems, as the dose may need adjusting. May cause nausea, headache or dizziness. Aciclovir treats but does not cure herpes. The virus stays in the body and outbreaks can recur; use protection to reduce passing genital herpes to others, including between outbreaks. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
