Overview
Zithrox 250mg contains azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. It is a prescription medicine used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including chest and respiratory infections, throat and tonsil infections, ear infections, some skin and soft-tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections. Azithromycin works by stopping the growth of the bacteria causing the infection. A key advantage is its short, convenient course. Often just a few days. Because it stays active in the body for some time. It works only against bacteria, not viral illnesses such as colds or flu.
Azithromycin (as dihydrate) 250mg.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. It is commonly taken as one 250mg or 500mg dose once a day for 3 to 5 days, depending on the infection. Swallow with water; it can be taken with or without food (taking it with food can reduce stomach upset). Take it at the same time each day and complete the full course, even if you feel better.
Do not take if you are allergic to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin). Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, a heart-rhythm problem (or take medicines that affect heart rhythm), or low potassium. It may cause stomach upset or diarrhoea. Seek urgent help for severe diarrhoea, palpitations or fainting, or any allergic reaction. Tell your doctor about other medicines, including antacids (separate them by a couple of hours). Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice.
