Overview
Pulmicort 0.5mg/ml Nebulising Suspension (20 respules) is the higher-strength budesonide respule from AstraZeneca, prescribed for nebulised maintenance treatment of asthma needing a stronger inhaled-steroid dose, and for croup in children under emergency care. Nebulised as a gentle mist, budesonide settles the chronic airway inflammation behind recurrent wheeze and night cough, cutting the frequency and severity of attacks with regular daily use. A preventer option for patients managed by paediatricians and chest specialists when inhalers alone are impractical.
Budesonide 0.5mg/ml nebulising suspension, 2ml single-dose respules.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Typically one respule nebulised once or twice daily via jet nebuliser, at consistent times. Shake gently before use, breathe normally through the mouthpiece or close-fitting mask until the mist is finished, then rinse the mouth (and wash the face if a mask was used). Use daily even when well. It prevents rather than relieves. Keep a reliever for sudden attacks.
Not for acute attack relief. Rinse mouth after every dose. Prevents oral thrush and hoarseness. Children on prolonged higher doses need growth monitoring; long-term users should not stop abruptly. Caution with untreated respiratory infections including TB. Have persistent coughs assessed before starting. Use in pregnancy on medical advice (inhaled budesonide has good safety data). Store respules upright below 30°C in the foil envelope, protected from light; use within 3 months of opening the envelope.
