Overview

Spiriva 18mcg Capsules (30 pack) contain tiotropium, Boehringer Ingelheim's once-daily long-acting bronchodilator for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Inhaled through the HandiHaler device, tiotropium keeps the airways relaxed and open for a full 24 hours, easing daily breathlessness, reducing flare-ups and improving exercise tolerance. It is a maintenance (preventer-style) treatment taken every day. Not a rescue inhaler, and is a global standard of care for COPD, a condition increasingly recognised .

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. One capsule inhaled once daily at the same time each day using the HandiHaler device. Place the capsule in the device chamber, pierce it, breathe out away from the mouthpiece, then inhale deeply and slowly; repeat a second inhalation from the same capsule. Never swallow the capsules. Keep a separate fast-acting reliever for sudden breathlessness.

Not for relief of an acute attack. Caution with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostate enlargement or urinary retention, and significant kidney impairment. Discuss with your doctor. Avoid getting powder in the eyes. Dry mouth is the most common side effect; sip water and maintain oral hygiene. Stop and seek care for eye pain, halos around lights, or worsening breathing after a dose. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice.
