Milk of Magnesia (Metromag, 100ml) contains magnesium hydroxide, a long-trusted remedy that works as both an antacid and a gentle laxative. As an antacid, it neutralises excess stomach acid to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion and an upset stomach; at higher doses it acts as an osmotic laxative to relieve occasional constipation by drawing water into the bowel. Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well. For indigestion/heartburn, take the smaller antacid dose shown on the label after meals or when symptoms occur; for occasional constipation, take the larger dose shown, usually at bedtime with plenty of water. Follow the label dosing and age guidance, and do not exceed the stated amount. Take it a couple of hours apart from other medicines.

For short-term use. Do not use as a laxative if you have severe stomach pain, nausea or vomiting, or a bowel blockage. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as magnesium can build up. Taking it for too long or too often can affect the bowel and body salts. See a doctor if constipation or indigestion persists beyond a week or two. Space it from other medicines, which it can affect.
