Overview
Amantadine 100mg Tablets (56 pack) contain amantadine, a medicine used mainly in Parkinson's disease and to relieve the stiffness, tremor and movement problems caused by certain antipsychotic medicines (drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms). Amantadine boosts dopamine activity in the brain, easing rigidity and helping smoother movement, and can reduce the involuntary movements (dyskinesia) some Parkinson's patients develop. Historically it was also used against influenza A. For people living with Parkinson's, amantadine is a useful prescription option, often added to other Parkinson's treatments under a doctor's guidance.
Active: Amantadine hydrochloride 100mg per tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet once or twice daily, with the second dose taken earlier in the day to avoid sleep disturbance. Swallow with water, with or without food. Do not stop suddenly, as Parkinson's symptoms can worsen sharply. Your doctor will reduce the dose gradually if treatment ends. Attend regular reviews so the dose can be adjusted to your response.
Tell your doctor about kidney problems (the dose must be reduced), heart failure, epilepsy, glaucoma or a history of psychosis. Amantadine can cause confusion, hallucinations, ankle swelling or a harmless purple skin mottling (livedo reticularis). May cause dizziness or blurred vision. Take care driving. Avoid alcohol. Do not stop abruptly. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly necessary and advised by your doctor. Store below 30°C. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
