Overview
Myfortic 360mg Tablets from Novartis contain mycophenolate sodium, an immunosuppressant medicine that dampens the body's immune response. It is used after an organ transplant (such as a kidney transplant), together with other anti-rejection medicines, to stop the immune system from attacking and rejecting the new organ. Mycophenolate works by slowing the multiplication of the immune cells that drive rejection. The gastro-resistant 360mg tablet is designed to be gentler on the stomach. A specialist-prescribed, closely monitored medicine helping transplant patients protect their transplanted organ.
Active: Mycophenolate sodium 360mg (gastro-resistant) per tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine started and supervised by a transplant specialist. Take only as directed. Usually twice daily, swallowed whole with water (do not crush, chew or open the tablets), on an empty stomach or consistently with regard to food as advised, at the same times each day. Never miss doses or stop without medical advice, as this risks rejection. Attend all follow-up appointments and the regular blood tests required.
Mycophenolate must NOT be used in pregnancy. It causes serious birth defects and miscarriage; reliable contraception is essential before, during and for a time after treatment for both women and men, as your specialist directs. Because it lowers immunity, you are more prone to infections. Report fever, sore throat or signs of infection promptly, and it raises the long-term risk of certain cancers (protect your skin from the sun). Avoid live vaccines. Tell your doctor about all medicines, and handle tablets without crushing them. Store below 30°C. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
