Overview
Benylin with codeine cough syrup contains Diphenhydramine, ammonium chloride and codeine. This combination relieves congestion, dries a runny nose and post-nasal drip, thins mucus to relief coughing and also suppresses the cough reflex centrally. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that relieves congestion and post-nasal drips, while ammonium chloride is the expectorant which thins mucus. Codeine suppresses the cough reflex by calming the part of the brain that regulates coughing.
Directions for Use
Adults: 5-10 ml every 4 hours. Do not exceed the stated dose and at least ensure a 4-6 hours before doses.
It should not be used together with alcohol or sleeping pills as they enhance the effects of benylin with codeine. It should be avoided in pregnancy and during breast feeding.
