Overview
Artequick Tablets (4 pack) is an artemisinin-based combination antimalarial containing artemisinin 62.5mg with piperaquine phosphate 375mg. It is used to treat uncomplicated malaria (Plasmodium falciparum and other species): artemisinin rapidly knocks down the malaria parasites, while the long-acting piperaquine clears the remaining parasites and helps prevent the infection returning. A short, convenient course makes it practical for treating malaria. An important, doctor- or pharmacist-directed treatment for people facing malaria, a major health concern across the country.
Actives: Artemisinin 62.5mg and Piperaquine phosphate 375mg per tablet.
Directions for Use
Take as directed by your doctor or pharmacist, following the pack and weight-based dosing exactly. The short course is usually completed over about two days. Swallow the tablets with water. Complete the full course even once you feel better, to clear all parasites and prevent resistance. If you vomit within an hour of a dose, repeat it. Seek urgent care if symptoms worsen, or for danger signs such as drowsiness, fits or inability to keep fluids down.
Malaria can be serious. See a health worker for diagnosis, and seek emergency care for severe symptoms (confusion, fits, repeated vomiting, breathing difficulty). This medicine is for treatment, not prevention. Tell your doctor about heart-rhythm problems, as some antimalarials can affect the heartbeat, and about other medicines you take. Not for the first trimester of pregnancy unless a doctor advises; discuss breastfeeding. Store below 30°C.
