Overview

Metronidazole Gel (20g) is a topical antibacterial and antiprotozoal gel applied directly to the skin. It is used to treat the redness, bumps and pustules of rosacea (a long-term facial skin condition), and to reduce the odour and bacterial load of infected wounds and ulcers. Metronidazole works against the bacteria and protozoa involved, calming inflammation and helping the skin settle. Applied to the affected area, it delivers the medicine where it is needed with little absorbed into the body. A doctor-prescribed option helping people manage rosacea or malodorous, infected skin wounds.

Active: Metronidazole (typically 0.75% or 1%) per gram. Confirm exact strength on the product packaging.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Usually a thin film applied to the affected skin once or twice daily. Wash and dry the area first, apply a thin layer and rub in gently, then wash your hands. For rosacea, it is used over several weeks and improvement is gradual; keep using it as directed. Avoid getting it in the eyes. You may use a non-oily moisturiser and sunscreen over it once dry, if advised.

For external use only. Avoid the eyes, and rinse well if it gets in them. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for a short time after, as metronidazole can react with alcohol. Mild local stinging, dryness or redness can occur. Tell your doctor if the skin does not improve or worsens. Protect treated skin from strong sun. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice.
