Overview
Calcigard Retard 20mg Tablets from Torrent contain nifedipine in a slow-release ('retard') form, a calcium-channel blocker for high blood pressure and angina (chest pain). Nifedipine relaxes and widens the blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow to the heart muscle so the heart works less hard. The retard tablet releases the medicine steadily for longer-lasting, smoother control than the older quick-acting form. It is also used for Raynaud's (poor circulation in the fingers). A doctor-prescribed option helping people manage hypertension and angina. Confirm the active on the pack.
Active: Nifedipine 20mg per slow-release (retard) tablet. Confirm on packaging.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet twice daily, swallowed whole with water (do not crush, chew or break the slow-release tablet, as this releases too much at once). Take it at the same times each day, with or after food. Keep taking it even when you feel well, and do not stop suddenly without advice. Attend regular blood-pressure checks.
Do not crush or chew the retard tablet. May cause ankle swelling, flushing, headache or dizziness, especially when starting. These often settle; rise slowly from sitting or lying. Avoid grapefruit, which raises drug levels. Tell your doctor about heart failure, very low blood pressure, severe aortic narrowing or liver problems. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 30°C, protected from light. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
