Overview

Canesten 500mg Vaginal Tablet (single) contains clotrimazole 500mg, an antifungal, as a single-dose vaginal pessary for the treatment of vaginal thrush (a yeast infection causing itching, soreness and discharge). The pessary is inserted into the vagina, where the clotrimazole clears the yeast infection, with a single dose often enough to treat the episode. From the trusted Canesten brand.

Directions for Use

Insert the single pessary high into the vagina at night (lying down makes this easier), using the applicator provided, ideally at bedtime so it stays in place. A single dose is usually sufficient. An accompanying external cream, if provided, can be applied to the surrounding area for itch relief. Confirm use on the pack.

For vaginal use only. Clotrimazole can damage latex condoms and diaphragms. Use alternative contraception for a few days around treatment. See a doctor rather than self-treating if it is your first episode of thrush, you are under 16 or over 60, you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you have recurrent thrush (more than twice in 6 months), unusual or bloody discharge, sores, fever or pelvic pain, or symptoms do not improve within a week.
