Overview

Destrex is a gentle, non-drowsy allergy suspension for children and adults, containing desloratadine - a modern (second-generation) antihistamine. It relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) such as sneezing, a runny or itchy nose and watery eyes, as well as the itching and hives of urticaria (skin allergy). Because desloratadine works mainly outside the brain, it eases allergy symptoms without the heavy drowsiness caused by older antihistamines, making it suitable for daytime use. The easy-to-measure syrup form is convenient for children aged 2 years and older and for anyone who prefers a liquid, offering all-day relief from seasonal and year-round allergies.

Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well and measure each dose with the measuring cup or spoon provided. Take once daily, with or without food. Usual doses: adults and children 12+ years, 10ml (5mg) once daily; children 6-11 years, 5ml (2.5mg) once daily; children 1-5 years, 2.5ml (1.25mg) once daily - or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as this does not improve relief.

Do not use if allergic to desloratadine or loratadine. Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding - use during pregnancy is best avoided unless advised. Although non-drowsy for most people, a few may feel sleepy; see how it affects you before driving. Mild effects can include headache, dry mouth or tiredness. Not for infants under 1 year unless prescribed. Store below 30°C away from direct sunlight and use within the period stated after opening.
