Overview
Dextrose 5% Infusion (500ml) is a sterile intravenous (IV) fluid containing glucose (dextrose) in water. Given into a vein by healthcare professionals, it is used to provide fluid and a source of energy (sugar) and to treat or prevent dehydration and low blood sugar, and as a carrier to dilute and give certain other medicines. A standard clinical IV fluid used to support patients in hospitals and clinics. This is for use by healthcare professionals only. Confirm the concentration on the pack.
Directions for Use
This is given by a healthcare professional as an intravenous infusion (a drip). It is not for use by patients at home. The doctor decides the volume, rate and duration based on the patient's fluid, energy and blood-sugar needs, using sterile technique. The bag and line are checked for clarity and correct labelling before use.
For intravenous use by trained healthcare professionals only. The amount and rate must be controlled by the medical team, with monitoring of fluid balance and (where relevant) blood sugar and salts, as too much fluid or glucose can be harmful, especially in heart, kidney or diabetic patients. Use only if the solution is clear and the container undamaged, and do not reuse. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Keep out of reach of children.
