Overview
EMLA Cream is a topical local anaesthetic containing lidocaine and prilocaine, used to numb the skin before minor procedures such as injections, blood tests, drip insertion or minor skin treatments. Applied to intact skin under a dressing, it temporarily blocks sensation so that needle pricks and small procedures are more comfortable, which is especially helpful for children and those anxious about needles. This 5g tube is used by patients as directed by a healthcare professional.
Directions for Use
Apply a thick layer to the area of skin to be numbed and cover with the airtight dressing provided. Leave in place for the time advised (commonly about 1 hour before the procedure), then wipe off before treatment. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions on amount and timing. Do not apply to large areas or leave on longer than advised.
For external use on intact skin only. Do not apply to wounds, broken skin, eyes or inside the nose/mouth unless directed. Tell your doctor if you or your child are allergic to local anaesthetics, or have certain blood disorders (such as methaemoglobinaemia) or anaemia. Use the correct amount and timing for the age/weight, as excess can be absorbed and cause serious effects. Use with care in very young infants. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store in a cool, dry place. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
Active ingredients: Lidocaine 2.5% + Prilocaine 2.5% (topical anaesthetic cream).
