Overview

Marvelon Pills (3 x 21 pack) are a combined oral contraceptive providing three months' supply. Each tablet contains two hormones. Desogestrel and ethinylestradiol. That prevent pregnancy mainly by stopping the release of an egg each month, while also thickening cervical mucus and thinning the womb lining. Taken correctly, Marvelon is a highly effective, reversible method of contraception that can also make periods lighter, more regular and less painful. A widely used family-planning choice for women.

Desogestrel 150 micrograms and ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms per tablet.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. One tablet daily at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free break during which a withdrawal bleed usually occurs, then start the next strip. Follow the strip order and your clinic's starting instructions. If you miss a pill or vomit within a few hours, follow the missed-pill guidance in the leaflet and use extra protection as advised.

Not for use with a history of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, certain migraines with aura, breast cancer, severe liver disease or uncontrolled high blood pressure. Smoking, especially over age 35, raises the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects. Seek urgent care for severe leg pain or swelling, chest pain, breathlessness, sudden severe headache or vision changes. Some medicines (including certain antibiotics, anti-epileptics and St John's Wort) reduce effectiveness. Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Store below 30°C.
