Overview

Gabbroral 250mg Tablets contain paromomycin, an antibiotic that works inside the gut to treat intestinal infections caused by certain parasites and bacteria. It is used particularly for intestinal amoebiasis (amoebic infection of the bowel) and some other intestinal parasite infections, as well as to help reduce gut bacteria in certain liver conditions. Because it is poorly absorbed from the gut, paromomycin acts mainly within the intestine where the infection is. Gabbroral is prescribed for adults and children under a doctor's direction to clear intestinal infection and relieve symptoms such as diarrhoea.

Active ingredient: Paromomycin (as sulphate) 250 mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor. Gabbroral is usually taken in divided doses with or after meals for the number of days your doctor prescribes. Commonly a short course. Swallow the tablets with water and complete the full course even if you feel better, to fully clear the infection. The exact dose depends on body weight and the condition being treated, so follow your doctor's instructions precisely.

Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, bowel disease or ulceration, or hearing problems. May cause stomach upset, nausea or diarrhoea. Avoid if allergic to paromomycin or related aminoglycoside antibiotics. Mention all other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding. Complete the prescribed course and attend any follow-up stool tests your doctor recommends to confirm the infection has cleared. Store below 25C in a dry place.
