Overview

Tofen Syrup (100ml) contains ketotifen, an antihistamine with anti-allergic and asthma-preventing action, in an easy-to-take liquid suitable for children. Taken regularly, ketotifen helps prevent allergic symptoms and reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks over time, and is also used for allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and allergic skin reactions. It works by blocking histamine and calming the allergic cells that drive wheeze, sneezing and itching. A useful preventer syrup for families managing childhood allergies and allergic asthma.

Active: Ketotifen 1mg per 5ml (as ketotifen hydrogen fumarate). Syrup base includes flavouring and preservatives.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually twice daily with food, with the dose measured by the age and weight of the child using the cup or spoon provided. It is a preventer that works gradually, so take it regularly for several weeks to feel the benefit, and do not stop it during an asthma flare without advice. Continue any separate reliever inhaler as prescribed.

This medicine prevents allergic and asthma symptoms. It does not relieve a sudden asthma attack; keep your reliever for that. It commonly causes drowsiness, especially at first. Take care with school or activities, which usually improves with continued use. Do not stop a regular asthma preventer suddenly. Avoid alcohol in older patients. Tell your doctor about epilepsy.
