Overview

Fosmol 3000mg is a single-dose sachet of fosfomycin (as fosfomycin trometamol), an antibiotic used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as cystitis, mainly in women. It works by killing the bacteria that commonly cause bladder infections, relieving symptoms like burning when passing urine and a frequent, urgent need to go. Its main advantage is convenience. A single 3g dose dissolved in water is often enough to treat a simple UTI. Fosmol is a prescription antibiotic for straightforward lower urinary tract infections.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Empty the contents of one sachet into a glass of water (about half a glass), stir to dissolve, and drink immediately. Take it on an empty stomach, ideally at bedtime after emptying the bladder. The usual course is a single dose; only take a second dose if your doctor tells you to.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to fosfomycin, have kidney problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not suitable for more serious or kidney infections, which need different treatment. Drink plenty of fluids. Seek advice if symptoms do not improve within a few days or worsen, or if you develop fever or back pain. Mild side effects can include diarrhoea, nausea or headache.
