Overview
Vithiol Syrup is a cough and chest medicine combining carbocisteine (a mucolytic) with promethazine (an antihistamine). Carbocisteine thins and loosens thick mucus, making it easier to cough up and clear from the airways, while promethazine helps with allergy-related symptoms and a tickly, irritating cough. It is used to relieve chesty, productive coughs and associated congestion, often where there is an allergic element, for patients (125ml).
Directions for Use
Shake well before use. Take the dose stated on the packaging for the relevant age group, measured with the cup or spoon provided, usually a few times a day. Follow your pharmacist's advice for the correct dose in children. Do not exceed the stated dose. Drinking plenty of fluids helps loosen mucus.
Contains promethazine, which can cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you, and avoid alcohol. Not recommended for young children except on medical advice (antihistamine cough medicines should be avoided in very young children). Use with caution in asthma, breathing problems, glaucoma, prostate or liver problems, and in pregnancy/breastfeeding. If the cough lasts more than one to two weeks or comes with high fever or breathlessness, see a doctor. People with diabetes should note any sugar content. Store in a cool, dry place.
