Overview

Galvus Met 50/500mg Tablets (60 pack) from Novartis combine two diabetes medicines in one tablet for adults with type 2 diabetes. Vildagliptin 50mg (a DPP-4 inhibitor) enhances the body's own insulin response after meals and reduces excess glucose release, while metformin 500mg lowers glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Together they provide smoother blood-sugar control than either alone. A convenient combined option for people whose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin by itself.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet twice daily with or just after meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. Take it consistently every day alongside a balanced diet and regular activity, and attend reviews for blood sugar, kidney function and HbA1c. Do not skip meals while taking it.

Do not use with significant kidney impairment, or in conditions causing dehydration or low oxygen. Metformin carries a rare risk of lactic acidosis (seek urgent care for unusual muscle pain, deep rapid breathing, severe weakness or vomiting). Stop temporarily around surgery, serious illness or contrast X-ray scans as advised. Report signs of liver problems (persistent nausea, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes) linked to vildagliptin. Limit alcohol; long-term use may lower vitamin B12. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 30°C.
