Acyclovir 3% Eye Ointment (Virovir) is a prescription antiviral eye ointment used to treat eye infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, such as herpetic keratitis (a viral infection of the cornea). Aciclovir works by stopping the herpes virus from multiplying, helping to clear the infection and protect vision. This 5g ointment is applied directly into the eye and is used by patients under the close supervision of an eye doctor.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Wash your hands first. Pull down the lower eyelid and apply a small ribbon of ointment (about 1 cm) inside the lower lid, usually five times a day at regular intervals, avoiding touching the eye or tube tip. Vision may blur briefly after application. Continue for at least a few days after healing, as advised.

This is a prescription antiviral eye medicine. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to aciclovir. Do not wear contact lenses during a herpes eye infection or while using the ointment.
