Nystatin Oral Drops (30ml) contain nystatin, an antifungal medicine used to treat and prevent oral thrush. A fungal (candida/yeast) infection of the mouth that causes white patches, soreness and discomfort. It is especially used for babies, children and adults with mouth thrush. Nystatin works directly in the mouth by killing the yeast, and very little is absorbed into the body, making it a gentle, targeted treatment. A doctor- or pharmacist-recommended option helping families treat oral thrush. Confirm the active on the pack.
Active: Nystatin (commonly 100,000 units/ml) oral suspension/drops. Confirm strength on the pack.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription/pharmacy medicine. Use as directed. Usually drop the prescribed amount into the mouth, four times a day, after food. For best effect, keep it in contact with the affected areas as long as possible (swish around the mouth before swallowing, where age-appropriate). For babies, apply the drops to the affected areas of the mouth as directed. Continue for the full course. Often for 48 hours after symptoms clear. To fully treat the infection.
For use in the mouth. Continue the full course as advised, even after the white patches clear, to prevent the thrush returning. For babies who are breastfed, the mother's nipples may also need treatment to stop passing the infection back and forth. Ask your doctor. Sterilise dummies and bottle teats. See a doctor if thrush does not improve, keeps coming back, or makes feeding/swallowing difficult. Store as directed.
