Tetracycline Eye Ointment 1% (3.5g) is a topical antibiotic ointment used to treat bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis (pink eye), blepharitis (eyelid inflammation) and trachoma. A leading infectious cause of blindness that remains a public health concern in parts of Kenya. Tetracycline stops the growth of a broad range of bacteria on the eye surface, clearing infection and easing redness, discharge and gritty discomfort. Inexpensive, well-tolerated and on the WHO list of essential medicines, it is a first-line eye infection treatment in clinics across the region.

Directions for Use

Wash hands thoroughly. Gently pull down the lower eyelid and squeeze a small ribbon of ointment (about 1cm) into the pocket between eyelid and eye, then close the eye for a minute and blink to spread it. Apply 2-4 times daily, or as directed by your doctor or clinic. For trachoma, follow the public health regimen advised. Vision may blur briefly after application. Wait before driving. Use for the full course prescribed, and do not share the tube. Discard 4 weeks after opening.

For eye use only. Do not use if allergic to tetracyclines. Do not wear contact lenses during treatment. Avoid touching the tube tip to the eye or any surface to prevent contamination. If symptoms worsen, vision deteriorates, or there is severe pain or light sensitivity, seek urgent medical review. These can signal more serious eye conditions. If there is no improvement within a few days, return to your healthcare provider. Store below 25°C with the cap tightly closed.
