Overview

Antepsin 1g Tablets (60 pack) contain sucralfate, a medicine that protects and heals ulcers in the stomach and digestive tract. Rather than reducing acid, sucralfate forms a protective barrier over the ulcer surface, shielding it from acid, enzymes and bile so it can heal. It is used to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers and to protect the gut lining in certain conditions. By coating and defending damaged areas, it relieves symptoms and promotes healing. A useful option for patients with ulcers, used under medical guidance.

Sucralfate 1g per tablet.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually on an empty stomach, about an hour before meals and at bedtime, swallowed with water (tablets may be dispersed in a little water if advised). Separate it from other medicines and from antacids by about two hours, as it can reduce their absorption. Complete the prescribed course even once symptoms improve.

Take other medicines (such as certain antibiotics, thyroid tablets, digoxin and phenytoin) at least two hours apart, as sucralfate can reduce their absorption. May cause constipation. Use caution with kidney impairment (it contains aluminium) and avoid long-term use in this group without advice. Persistent stomach symptoms, vomiting blood or black stools need prompt medical assessment. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 25°C.
