Overview

Amoxil 500mg from GSK contains amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic. It is a prescription medicine used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including chest and respiratory infections, ear, nose and throat infections, urinary tract infections, dental infections and certain skin infections. Amoxicillin works by killing the bacteria responsible for the infection. It is one of the most widely used antibiotics and is effective only against bacteria. It will not treat viral illnesses such as colds or flu. Always complete the full prescribed course.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is one 500mg capsule three times a day (about every 8 hours), swallowed with water. It can be taken with or without food. Space the doses evenly through the day and complete the entire course, even if you feel better, to clear the infection fully and reduce antibiotic resistance.

Do not take if you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. Tell your doctor about any allergies. Seek urgent help for rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or glandular fever (it can cause a rash). Antibiotics can reduce the effect of oral contraceptives, so use additional protection. Finish the full course.
