Overview

Combizol Tablets (10 pack) combine ofloxacin 200mg and ornidazole 500mg. A fluoroquinolone antibiotic and an antiprotozoal. To treat mixed gut and abdominal infections. The pair covers both the bacteria and the amoeba/giardia-type parasites behind infectious diarrhoea, dysentery and some gynaecological and dental infections, clearing infections that a single agent might miss. A practical prescription combination for the mixed gastrointestinal infections commonly seen in clinics, taken as a short doctor-directed course.

Ofloxacin 200mg with ornidazole 500mg per tablet. Confirm on product packaging.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet every 12 hours for 3-5 days with food. Swallow whole with water; avoid taking with dairy products. Complete the full course even if diarrhoea settles. Maintain oral rehydration during diarrhoeal illness. If symptoms persist beyond 3 days, or there is blood in stools or high fever, return for review.

Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 3 days after. Ornidazole reacts with alcohol. Not for use in pregnancy, breastfeeding, children or adolescents except on specialist advice. Stop and seek care for tendon pain, palpitations, seizures or tingling (fluoroquinolone effects). May cause dizziness or metallic taste; assess before driving. Caution with epilepsy, heart rhythm disorders and diabetes. Separate from antacids, iron and zinc by 2 hours. Store below 30°C.
