Overview

Ojen-OZ Tablets (10 pack) combine ofloxacin 200mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, with ornidazole 500mg, which targets anaerobic bacteria and protozoa like amoeba and giardia. This pairing is prescribed for mixed gut and abdominal infections. Infective diarrhoea and dysentery, amoebiasis with bacterial co-infection, and certain gynaecological and dental infections where multiple organisms are involved. Covering both common bacterial and parasitic causes of severe diarrhoea in one tablet, it is a practical option for clinically diagnosed mixed infections .

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Commonly one tablet twice daily after meals for 3-5 days as prescribed. Swallow whole with water and complete the full course. Take at least 2 hours apart from antacids, iron or zinc supplements. Maintain fluids and oral rehydration during diarrhoea. Do not self-treat recurrent diarrhoea. Persistent symptoms need stool testing.

Strictly avoid alcohol during treatment and for 3 days after. Ornidazole causes severe flushing and vomiting with alcohol. Not for children, pregnancy or breastfeeding except on specialist advice. Stop and seek care for tendon pain, palpitations, seizures or tingling (quinolone effects). Caution with epilepsy, heart rhythm disorders and diabetes. May cause dizziness. Assess before driving.
