Overview

Rifaxa 200mg Tablets (10 pack) contain rifaximin, a gut-targeted antibiotic that stays mostly within the intestine rather than being absorbed into the body. This makes it useful for infections and conditions of the gut. Most commonly travellers' diarrhoea caused by certain bacteria, and, at higher doses, to help prevent the confusion of hepatic encephalopathy in people with liver disease and to manage some bowel symptoms. By acting locally on harmful gut bacteria, rifaximin clears infection while limiting whole-body effects. A doctor-prescribed option helping people with bacterial diarrhoea and certain gut conditions.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. The dose and length depend on the condition being treated (for travellers' diarrhoea it is usually taken a few times daily for about 3 days). Swallow the tablets with water, with or without food, and complete the full course even if you feel better. Tell your doctor if diarrhoea continues, worsens, or is accompanied by fever or blood.

Seek medical advice if diarrhoea persists beyond 1-2 days, worsens, or comes with fever or blood in the stool. Rifaximin is not suitable for all types of gut infection. Tell your doctor about severe liver problems and other medicines. Stop and seek care for any rash, swelling or breathing difficulty. Keep well hydrated with oral rehydration solution during diarrhoea. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 30°C.
