Overview

Nycostat Drops (30ml) contain nystatin, an antifungal medicine used to treat oral thrush (candidiasis). The creamy-white patches and soreness in the mouth caused by Candida yeast. Held in the mouth, nystatin acts directly on the yeast on the surfaces of the mouth and throat to clear the infection. It works locally without being absorbed into the body, making it gentle and suitable even for babies with oral thrush. A trusted, effective treatment helping infants and adults clear uncomfortable mouth and throat fungal infections.

Active: Nystatin 100,000 IU per ml. Oral suspension base with flavouring and preservative.

Directions for Use

Use as directed by your doctor. Usually the dropper is used to place the drops into the mouth four times a day, after feeds or meals. Hold or swish the medicine in the mouth, around the affected areas, for as long as possible before swallowing (or spitting out in young infants as advised). Keep using it for at least 48 hours after the mouth looks clear to prevent the infection returning. Do not eat or drink for a short while afterwards.

Complete the full course even once symptoms improve, to stop the thrush coming back. For babies, also treat the likely source. Sterilise dummies and bottle teats, and treat the mother's nipples if breastfeeding and affected. Tell your doctor if the thrush does not improve or keeps returning, as this may need further assessment. Mild mouth irritation or nausea can occur. Store below 25°C.
