Overview

Tacrovate 0.03% Ointment (10g) contains tacrolimus, a topical immunomodulator that calms inflamed skin without using steroids. It is prescribed for moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema), particularly on delicate areas such as the face and skin folds where long-term steroid use is best avoided. Tacrolimus works by quietening the overactive immune cells in the skin that drive the redness, itching and flare-ups of eczema. The 0.03% strength is the milder concentration, suitable for children (on a doctor's advice) and sensitive skin. A valuable steroid-free option for people managing stubborn eczema.

Active: Tacrolimus 0.03% (as tacrolimus monohydrate) per gram. Ointment base includes white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Usually a thin layer applied to the affected skin twice daily during flare-ups, then less often as the skin improves. Wash and dry your hands before and after applying (unless treating the hands). Apply only to eczema-affected areas, not healthy skin, and do not cover with airtight dressings. Use sun protection on treated skin.

For external use only. Avoid the eyes and inside the mouth or nose. A warm or burning sensation when first applied is common and usually settles. Avoid strong sunlight and sunlamps on treated skin, and do not use on infected or broken skin. Limit alcohol, which can cause facial flushing during treatment. Tell your doctor if the eczema does not improve. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 25°C.
