Overview

Aldara 5% Cream (imiquimod) is an immune response modifier from Meda/3M, supplied here in a 2g pump. Rather than attacking a problem directly, imiquimod stimulates the skin's own immune defences to clear abnormal cells. It is prescribed for external genital and perianal warts, actinic keratoses (rough, sun-damaged patches) and superficial basal cell carcinoma where surgery is unsuitable. By harnessing the body's natural immunity, Aldara offers a non-surgical, doctor-supervised treatment option for these skin conditions for patients .

Active: Imiquimod 5% (50mg per gram). Excipients include isostearic acid, benzyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, white soft paraffin, polysorbate 60 and methyl/propyl hydroxybenzoate (parabens).

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Application frequency and duration depend on the condition (often three times weekly for warts, applied at bedtime). Wash your hands and the treatment area, apply a thin layer of cream to clean, dry skin and rub in until no longer visible. Leave on for the prescribed hours (usually 6-10), then wash off with mild soap and water. Discard each pump dose after a single use, and do not cover with airtight dressings.

For external use only. Avoid the eyes, lips, nostrils and inside the vagina. Local skin reactions (redness, flaking, itching, mild erosion) are expected and show the cream is working; severe breakdown means a treatment break. Avoid sexual contact while the cream is on the skin, and note it can weaken condoms and diaphragms. Limit sun exposure to treated areas. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
