Overview

Surgical Spirit (70%, 1 litre) is an antiseptic and skin-preparation liquid for external first-aid and hygiene use. Based on denatured alcohol (often with a little methyl salicylate and castor oil), it cleans and disinfects the skin, helps harden skin to prevent blisters and bed sores, and is used to clean intact skin before injections and to wipe down surfaces and equipment. It evaporates quickly, leaving the skin clean and dry. A practical, economical antiseptic for homes, clinics and pharmacies. For external use only.

Denatured ethanol (industrial methylated spirit) ~70%, typically with small amounts of methyl salicylate and castor oil. Confirm exact composition on the label.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Apply to intact skin using cotton wool or a clean cloth to clean or toughen the skin, or to wipe surfaces and equipment as needed. For pressure-area or blister-prevention care, dab lightly onto the skin. Allow to dry. Do not use on open wounds, broken or raw skin, or mucous membranes, as it will sting and irritate. Keep the container closed when not in use.

For external use only. Do NOT swallow; surgical spirit is poisonous if drunk. Keep away from the eyes, broken skin and mucous membranes. Highly flammable. Keep away from flames, sparks and cigarettes, and store away from heat. Do not use on open wounds or burns. Stop use if it causes marked skin irritation. Use in a ventilated area.
