Malanil Adult 250/100mg Tablets (12 pack) combine atovaquone 250mg and proguanil 100mg to prevent and treat malaria. The two medicines work together to kill the malaria parasite at different stages, making the combination effective against the most dangerous form, Plasmodium falciparum, including in areas with drug resistance. It is used both to treat acute uncomplicated malaria and to protect travellers. A well-tolerated, reliable antimalarial for patients and visitors, used under medical guidance.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. For treatment, the usual adult dose is four tablets once daily for three days; for prevention, one tablet daily starting 1-2 days before travel, throughout the stay, and for 7 days after leaving the malaria area. Take with food or a milky drink at the same time each day to aid absorption. If you vomit within an hour, repeat the dose.

Tell your doctor about kidney problems (the preventive dose may be unsuitable in severe impairment) and all other medicines, including warfarin and certain antibiotics. May cause stomach upset, headache or mouth ulcers. Malaria can be life-threatening. Seek urgent care for fever, especially after travel, and complete the full course. Use protective measures against mosquito bites as well. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 30°C.
