Overview

Maxitrol Eye Drops combine two antibiotics, neomycin and polymyxin B, with the anti-inflammatory steroid dexamethasone. They are prescribed for eye conditions where both infection and inflammation need treating, or to prevent infection after eye surgery, easing redness, swelling and irritation while tackling bacteria. Supplied as a 5ml bottle for short-term use under medical guidance.

Active ingredients: Neomycin sulphate, Polymyxin B sulphate and Dexamethasone 0.1%. Confirm exact strengths on the packaging.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Shake the bottle. Wash your hands, tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid and instil the prescribed number of drops, usually several times daily. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye. Remove contact lenses before use and follow your doctor's advice.

Not for use in many viral or fungal eye infections, which steroids can worsen. Use only as prescribed. Prolonged use can raise eye pressure (glaucoma) and is monitored. Tell your doctor about aminoglycoside antibiotic allergy. Do not share the bottle and discard as advised after opening. May cause brief stinging or blurred vision. Store below 25°C.
