Overview
Melmet 1000mg SR Tablets (30 pack) contain metformin 1000mg in a sustained-release (SR) form. The first-line medicine for type 2 diabetes. Metformin lowers blood sugar mainly by reducing the glucose the liver makes and improving the body's response to insulin, without causing weight gain or, on its own, low blood sugar. The sustained-release form is gentler on the stomach and taken once daily.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take one tablet once daily with the evening meal, swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the sustained-release tablet (an empty tablet shell may appear in the stool, which is normal). Continue diet and exercise measures and monitor blood sugar as advised. Confirm your dose with your pharmacist.
Common, usually temporary stomach effects (nausea, diarrhoea) are reduced by the SR form and taking it with food. Rarely, metformin can cause lactic acidosis. Seek urgent care for unusual muscle pain, deep rapid breathing, severe drowsiness or feeling very unwell. Treatment is paused during serious illness, dehydration, before surgery and before contrast X-ray scans. Limit alcohol. Long-term use can lower vitamin B12. Levels may be checked. Use caution in kidney impairment (dose adjusted). This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
