Overview

Mesalamine 400mg SR Tablets (50 pack) contain mesalazine (5-ASA) in a sustained-release form for inflammatory bowel disease. Treating and maintaining remission in ulcerative colitis and, in some cases, Crohn's disease. Mesalazine delivers anti-inflammatory action directly to the inflamed bowel lining, calming flares and helping keep the disease quiet during maintenance.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take as prescribed, swallowing the sustained-release tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew, as this defeats the delayed-release design. Take consistently every day, including during remission, as maintenance treatment prevents relapse. The intact tablet shell may occasionally appear in the stool. Do not stop without medical advice.

Drink plenty of fluids. Report any worsening of colitis symptoms (increased bloody diarrhoea, cramping, fever). Rarely mesalazine can worsen symptoms. Report unexplained bleeding, bruising, fever or sore throat (blood effects). Kidney function is monitored periodically. Tell your doctor about kidney problems and avoid combining with nephrotoxic medicines unnecessarily. Tell your doctor if you have a salicylate (aspirin) allergy. Use in pregnancy on medical advice.
