Overview

Micona Oral Gel 40g contains miconazole, an antifungal gel for oral thrush (oral candidiasis). The creamy-white patches, soreness and altered taste of a fungal mouth infection, common in babies, denture-wearers, after antibiotics and in those with weakened immunity. Applied directly to the affected areas, it clears the fungus where it lives.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Apply the prescribed amount to the affected areas of the mouth after meals, using a clean finger, typically four times daily. Hold it in the mouth as long as possible before swallowing. For babies, apply small amounts to avoid blocking the throat. Continue for at least 7 days and for a few days after symptoms clear. Confirm dosing on the pack.

IMPORTANT interaction: oral miconazole is absorbed enough to interact dangerously with warfarin (raising bleeding risk) and certain other medicines (statins, some diabetes and heart medicines). Tell your pharmacist everything you take. Not for use with certain medicines or in significant liver disease without advice. For babies, apply carefully in small portions to the front of the mouth to avoid gagging. Seek review if thrush does not clear or keeps returning. An underlying cause may need attention.
