Overview
Marvelon Pills (21 pack) from Organon are a combined oral contraceptive ('the Pill') containing two hormones. Desogestrel and ethinylestradiol. Taken regularly, they prevent pregnancy mainly by stopping the ovaries releasing an egg each month, while also thickening cervical mucus and thinning the womb lining. Besides reliable contraception, the Pill often makes periods lighter, more regular and less painful. A widely used, doctor-prescribed contraceptive helping women plan if and when to have children. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Use condoms for that.
Actives: Desogestrel 150 micrograms and Ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms per tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take exactly as directed. One tablet at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break (when a withdrawal bleed occurs) before starting the next pack. Follow the leaflet on how to start and what to do if you miss a pill, are sick or have diarrhoea, as extra precautions may be needed. Use condoms as well for protection against sexually transmitted infections.
Combined pills slightly raise the risk of blood clots. Seek urgent care for calf pain or swelling, chest pain, breathlessness, severe headache or sudden vision changes. They are not suitable for everyone: tell your doctor about migraine with aura, high blood pressure, smoking (especially over 35), a history of clots, certain cancers or liver disease. Some medicines (including certain antibiotics and epilepsy drugs) reduce effectiveness. It does not protect against STIs. Use in line with medical advice; not for use in pregnancy. Store below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
