Overview
PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) Tablets are a short course of antiretroviral medicines taken after a possible exposure to HIV to help prevent infection. PEP must be started as soon as possible. Ideally within hours and no later than 72 hours after the exposure, and is taken every day for 28 days. It is used after events such as a condom break, sexual assault, or a needlestick/occupational exposure. PEP is most effective when started early and taken consistently for the full course, under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. PEP is started as soon as possible after exposure (within 72 hours) and taken once daily for the full 28 days. Take it at the same time each day and complete the entire course, even if you feel well, as stopping early reduces its effectiveness. Attend all follow-up appointments and HIV testing as advised.

Tell your doctor about kidney problems and all other medicines you take. May cause nausea, tiredness or headache, which usually settle. PEP does not protect against future exposures.
