Overview
Sevlaren 800mg Tablets contain sevelamer, a phosphate binder used in people with chronic kidney disease, particularly those on dialysis. When the kidneys fail, phosphate from food builds up in the blood, which over time harms the bones, heart and blood vessels. Taken with meals, sevelamer binds the phosphate in the gut so it is passed out in the stool instead of being absorbed, helping keep blood phosphate at a safer level. Unlike some binders it contains no calcium. A doctor-prescribed medicine helping people with advanced kidney disease control their phosphate levels and protect their bones and heart. Confirm the active on the pack.
Active: Sevelamer (as carbonate or hydrochloride) 800mg per tablet. Confirm exact salt on packaging.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. The number of tablets depends on your blood phosphate level and your meals. Take it with food (with or immediately after meals), swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew. Because it works on the phosphate in food, it must be taken with meals to be effective. Keep taking it as prescribed and attend the regular blood tests that guide the dose.
Take with meals. It does not work taken away from food. Separate it by a couple of hours from some other medicines (your doctor or pharmacist will advise), as it can affect their absorption. May cause nausea, bloating, constipation or diarrhoea. Tell your doctor about swallowing problems or serious gut conditions. Attend the blood tests that monitor phosphate and other minerals. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
