The neem tree is hailed as the ultimate of all health benefiting plants. The first recorded indication that neem was being used in natural health was around 4500 years ago and this included the fruit, seeds, oil, leaves, roots and bark for their advantageous health and wellness properties. This was the high point of the Indian Harappa culture, one of the great civilizations in the ancient world. The US National Academy of Science also recognized the value of neem in its 1992 report entitled 'Neem: A tree for solving global problems.' The parts of the neem tree have over 130 different biologically active compounds. Neem has anti-ageing, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-septic, anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-microbial properties. In Ayurveda, neem is known to kindle 'agni', or the 'digestive fire', within 'meda dhatu' (the adipose tissue layer), encouraging proper metabolism. Neem can help relieve symptoms of stomach and intestinal ulcers, enhance metabolism, helps break down body fat, relieves constipation, helps to purge the colon and enhances the bodies excretion process. Neem can help reduce skin blemishes, it is great for hair, nail and oral hygiene, neem can help relieve, respiratory disorders, rheumatism, chronic syphilitic sores and fever.
