Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take one tablet once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food. Taking it consistently every day is the key to keeping HIV suppressed. Set a daily reminder, and plan ahead for travel and refills so you never run out. Do not stop or skip doses without speaking to your healthcare provider. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless your next dose is nearly due.
Before starting, an HLA-B*5701 blood test is required. People who carry this gene must not take abacavir-containing medicines due to a risk of serious hypersensitivity reaction. Stop and seek urgent care for rash with fever, breathing difficulty, stomach pain or general illness, and never restart abacavir after a suspected reaction. Tell your clinician about hepatitis B, liver or kidney conditions, pregnancy or plans to conceive, and all other medicines. Common early effects. Nausea, headache, sleep disturbance. Usually settle. If you have questions about HIV testing or treatment, speak confidentially with a healthcare provider or contact a local health clinic. Store below 30°C in the original container.
