Overview
Unicontin 400mg Tablets (100 pack) contain theophylline in a continuous-release (SR) form. Theophylline is a bronchodilator used to help control asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by relaxing the muscles around the airways and opening them up, making breathing easier and reducing wheezing and breathlessness. The sustained-release tablet gives steady levels through the day, supporting longer-lasting control. A doctor-prescribed option helping patients keep their asthma and COPD breathing symptoms under control. Confirm the active on the pack.
Active: Theophylline 400mg per sustained-release tablet (anhydrous).
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet once or twice daily at the same times each day, swallowed whole with water (do not crush or chew the sustained-release tablet). Try to take it consistently in relation to food, as changing this can affect levels. Do not change the brand or dose without advice, and attend any blood tests your doctor orders to check your theophylline level.
Theophylline has a narrow safety margin. Report nausea, vomiting, palpitations, tremor, restlessness or seizures, which can signal levels that are too high. Many things change theophylline levels: smoking, infections, and medicines such as certain antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, erythromycin), and some heart and ulcer drugs. Tell your doctor everything you take and if you start or stop smoking. Limit caffeine. Tell your doctor about heart, liver or thyroid problems and epilepsy. Store below 30°C.
