Valtrex 500mg Tablets (42 pack) from GSK contain valaciclovir, an antiviral medicine that treats infections caused by the herpes family of viruses. Once in the body, valaciclovir converts to aciclovir, which stops the virus multiplying. Helping to heal and shorten outbreaks of cold sores, genital herpes and shingles (herpes zoster), and, taken regularly, to reduce how often genital herpes recurs. Starting treatment early gives the best results. A trusted, doctor-prescribed antiviral helping people manage and suppress painful herpes and shingles outbreaks.

Active: Valaciclovir 500mg (as hydrochloride) per tablet.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. The dose and length depend on the condition (for example, a short higher-dose course for shingles or a herpes outbreak, or a lower daily dose to prevent recurrences). Start as early as possible once symptoms or warning tingling begin, swallow with water, and drink plenty of fluids during treatment. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Drink plenty of fluids while taking it to protect the kidneys. Tell your doctor about kidney problems (the dose may need lowering) or a weakened immune system. May cause headache, nausea or dizziness. Genital herpes can still be passed on. Avoid sexual contact during outbreaks and use protection. Seek advice for confusion, agitation or reduced urination.
